Welcome to Beyond The Walls Academy Online Preschool! A virtual classroom that places each child's unique learning first. My name is Samico Chilton, I am married and we have three children. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, CDA (Child Development Associate), and a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction and Early Childhood Education. I taught toddler 2 for 2 years, pre-kindergarten for 3 years, and kindergarten for 2 years in the district, I also owned a childcare for 17 years. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, going on walks, and traveling.

I Focus on The "Whole Child!"
At Beyond The Walls Academy, we follow a “whole child” philosophy where we partner with you to improve your child’s Social, Emotional, Cognitive, Language, and Physical skills. Your child will learn to socialize, make friends, develop social and emotional skills, and be more than ready for kindergarten! We love to get messy, and the best time for that is at art time! We focus on the process, not the product, and use a wide variety of art materials. Children learn SO MUCH MORE when they have the chance to explore and play without rules of what art "should" look like at the end.
Our curriculum is based on the NAEYC guidelines and features a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated hands-on activities to accomplish these goals.
I will keep you in the loop on what we are working on, and I will also let you know exactly how your child is doing during our parent teacher conferences each year. I aim to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive and enthusiastic learners by actively exploring their environment. In fact, one of the best ways we can teach is to ask THEM questions. "What are you creating?" "How does it work?" "Tell me about what you drew." etc.
What do we do during Pre-recorded ?
I teach two class ranges, 2.5-3 years and 4-5 years. In our 2.5-3 years range, your little one will be entertained with pre-recorded videos. In the videos, your child will be introduced to the sight word of the week along with a new word in American Sign Language. Here at Beyond The Walls Academy, ASL can assist in little ones memorizing and learning new vocabulary words.
In our 4-5 years class range we focus on kindergarten readiness. I will use a few basic ASL and pictures to help children learn new vocabulary words. At Beyond The Walls Academy, we will learn phonics, sight words, segmenting/stretching words, one word syllable count, and fluency to ensure they are ready to read by the time they go into kindergarten. Of course we will also work on numbers and have a few science/social studies discussions.
- Circle Time: 5 minutes
- Music & Movement: 5 minutes
- Story Time: 10 minutes
- School Time: 15 minutes
During our class live sessions, my early learners (2.5-3) will practice and review lessons learned from the recordings. Your child will engage by answering questions, having story time, music & movement, circle time, and learn about the weather and calendar. All of these lessons will relate to the current theme introduced.
During or class live lesson, my beginning learners (4-5) will engage by reviewing the pre-recorded lessons and have circle and calendar time. We practice reading and have story time as well as music & movement and social time to speak with friends. All conversations will be related to the theme and current lesson.

All part-time students will receive one live class a week. Full-time students will receive 2 live sessions a week. All students will receive all pre-recorded lessons and supplies for any projects in the lesson. Supplies will be mailed a week in advance to ensure your child is ready for their live class.

- Do parents have to be present? No! You do however, need to log your child into the online classroom at the start of each class, but then you can either stay or do other things you need to do.
- Do parents have to print things off or help outside of preschool class? No! I will send everything your child needs for class after I receive your first months payment.
- Do parents have to buy art materials? No! I purchase and mailout all required materials.
- What if my child is not quite 2 years old? No worries, If you would like to get 2 of the pre-recorded lessons I can send them to you for a small fee of $20. This will include any materials needed for the recording. With the exception that you will enroll them when they turn 2.5 years.
- Are there other costs besides my monthly tuition? No! There are no other costs required to participate unless you choose something from our A la Carte.
- What requirements do I need to participate? You'll need internet and a laptop or desktop computer. You can use an iPad or a phone but we don't recommend it because it's too hard to see everyone's faces and actually socialize with them.
- I'm not technical. Will you show me how to login? Yes. We've put together amazing video trainings that will walk you through how to login. It's easy!
- What platform is this using? We use Zoom, a free platform. The links we use to join our online classroom are exclusive to our preschool families so no one else can access the online classroom. Plus, our online classroom is monitored by a teacher (that's ME!) at all times when in use.
- Can I connect with preschool parents in my child's preschool class? Absolutely! After signing up, you'll join our private Facebook group of amazing preschool families. We're super supportive and excited to have you join us!
